PRINCIPAL’S LETTER
August 11, 2026
Dear Parents and Families,
As we begin the new school year, we want to share an important update regarding our school’s master schedule. Our team has carefully reviewed and adjusted the schedule to create a stronger balance of Structured Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Specials, and Navajo Language instruction for all students in kindergarten through 5th grade.
The purpose of this schedule change is to ensure that every student receives consistent, protected instructional time in the core academic areas while also having opportunities to participate in enrichment, cultural, and language learning.
The revised master schedule provides:
• Dedicated Structured Literacy time to strengthen foundational reading skills, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and writing.
• Protected Mathematics instruction focused on developing strong problem- solving, reasoning, and computational skills.
• Daily Science instruction provides students with opportunities to explore, investigate, ask questions, and apply their learning.
• Navajo Language instruction that supports language development, cultural knowledge, identity, and connections to our community.
• Specials and enrichment opportunities that allow students to develop creativity, physical wellness, collaboration, and other skills beyond the core academic subjects.
• Time for recess, lunch, intervention, and student support to promote the social, emotional, and physical well-being of our students.
This change reflects our commitment to providing students with a well-rounded educational experience while making the most effective use of our instructional day. The schedule is designed to reduce conflicts between subject areas and ensure that students have consistent access to the instruction and learning experiences they need.
Most importantly, this work supports our District Strategic Plan by strengthening academic achievement, supporting student growth, honoring our Navajo language and culture, and providing equitable learning opportunities for every student. We recognize that changes to the master schedule can require an adjustment for students, families, and staff. We appreciate your partnership and understanding as we work to create a schedule that best supports student learning and success.
Together, we remain committed to providing a safe, respectful, responsible, and academically enriching environment where every student has the opportunity to grow and succeed.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and school community.
Stronger Together,
Jerilyn Tsinigine, Principal
Cheryl Piestewa, Assistant Principal
